How can I change my default search results display?

Note: The default for all new CCH Internet Research NetWork subscribers is "Display by Document." The new Table of Contents views are additional choices for viewing your search results. If "Display by Publication" was previously your default, it is now set to "Table of Contents-Show All."

a. Log in to your Research NetWork.

b. Click on the button, located on the upper right hand corner of the screen.

c. Click on the tab and then scroll down to the " Search Results Display " section.

d. Select "Display by Table of Contents-Hits Only" (hides all the other publications and topics that do not contain "hits") or "Display by Table of Contents-Show All" (shows publications and topics that have zero hits and allows you to browse them) from  the drop down menu.

e. When you are finished, click the "APPLY CHANGES" button to save your changes.

f. Choose "Main Menu" from the pick list or click the button to continue your research.

What are the differences between "Display by Document", "Display by Table of Contents- Show All", and "Display by Table of Contents- Hits Only"

The CCH Internet Research NetWork allows you to choose from three different search results displays. You can easily switch between the different views once you conduct a search, so you can see which works best for you.

  1. Display by Document- This option allows you to view a a combined list of documents from all the different publications and topics that you searched. The list may be sorted by relevance if you choose.
  2. Display by Table of Contents-Show All- This option lets you view search results directly on your Internet Research Library tabs and displays the number of "hits" that match your search term(s) right next to the libraries, publications and topics in which they are found. It enables you to see where your "hits" fall within the publication. You can then go directly to a document view or drill down to the next level.
  3. Display by Table of Contents- Hits Only- This option works the same as "Display by Table of Contents" except  it will hide all of the publications and topics that do not contain "hits" for your search term(s). This means that you will not see them on your screen so they are inaccessible.

How do I conduct  a search within my Table of Contents view?

If you want to search within your results displayed in the Table of Contents view, simply make sure the checkboxes next to the publications, topics, or documents that you would like to search within are checked and uncheck the publications, topics, or documents that you do not want to search. Then enter you new search term(s) in the search expression field and click the "Search" button.
